A Day in Battle Creek - March 1996
Page 2 - I've moved from the downtown area east to where the freight yards are.

Another photo looking south at Hinman Yard, which has 9 tracks. It's no surprise that BC is not as busy as it used to be.
An old Penn Central TOC box car in that special green color scheme. It's just used for storage these days.
Here is the find of the day - an old NYC boxcar. The NYC ceased to exist in 1969. You can see the truck on the left is off the rails. This car will never turn a wheel in service again!
To the south of the above photos, Hinman Yard narrows and then spreads out again around the curve. The boxcars you see are all owned by the Kellogg Company. They are all either a faded PC Green or a faded Boxcar Brown.
Looking inside the Kellogg Company property, they have their own yard and there is a resident switcher not visible here.
Next to the Kellogg manufacturing plant is a CN locomotive stabling location. This was before the fueling point had been built on the main line. At this time, the majority of locomotives seen in Battle Creek still had Grand Truck paint and lettering.
