Just north of the main East-west
Conrail/Amtrak line, this ex-Pennsy signal on the
route from Grand Rapids protects the former line. It is now gone.
This is North Kalamazoo Yard, used
for sorting the various cars for the various customers
on the
North side of Kalamazoo.
Another shot of North Kalamazoo Yard
with a major customer, the James River Paper
Company to the right. A little-used spur into the sewage works is on the left
but cannot be seen.
On the East-west main at about 9 a.m. the
Conrail local
to North Kalamazoo backs out of
Botsford Yard.
A caboose is used for protection of the train crew at the rear.
8219 backs southwards off the
East-west main and will stop right on Kalamazoo
Avenue before the switch allowing access to North Kalamazoo can be lined up.
A crew member lines up said switch. BO Tower is just to the right of the photographer.
Now the local is heading for North Kalamazoo and about to bang over the double diamond.
Here we see BO Tower, one of the last active railroad towers in West Michigan.
